Clermont
Clermont Sub Branch will hold its AGM on the 3rd Wednesday in March 2012 at the Clermont Sub Branch.
For more information, please contact the Secretary on 4983 1960.
Clermont Sub Branch of the RSL has functioned since 1928. With increased membership after the Second World War, the RSL built clubrooms which were opened in 1958. Here, monthly meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month.
The Exservicemen’s Club was formed in 1960 and operates from these premises. At present they only open on Wednesdays and Fridays and for special functions.
We have an RSL Ladies Auxiliary which has done magnificent work catering for functions connected with the RSL.
The Laurel Club for war widows holds their monthly meeting at the clubrooms.
Over the years, the RSL and local council have initiated memorials to former servicemen and women at Remembrance Way, on the banks of Hoods Lagoon.
The Sub Branch also accessed funding to create memorials to Billy Sing [crack sniper at Gallipoli], Victor Stanley Jones [first Australian killed in action—Boer War] and Nurse Beatrice Huston [one of the first Queensland nurses to go to war—Boer War], all having been born in Clermont.
The Public Meeting on Anzac Day is held at Remembrance Way.
We work with our schools and community groups to promote the interests and welfare of our members as well as the wider Clermont community.
Anzac Day has been commemorated annually in Clermont since 1916.
